Unanswered Prayers
I am not generally a very big country fan, but there are a few such songs on my favorites playlist. A couple just have good memories attached, and a few others have lyrics that made me stop and think when I heard the song. Once such song is "Unanswered Prayers" by Garth Brooks, and tonight it got me thinking about some of my unanswered prayers. The list is long and some still that I do not understand, but I think today my favorite was how I ended up with my current job.
It had long been a dream of mine to work at Apple and that dream started to come true by joining the Tucson store when it opened in 2003. But it was just the start, I knew that retail was not where I wanted to work forever and I had my eyes set on getting a job at corporate doing something more technical, hopefully an engineer of some kind. I put my year in at the store and then started the search for a position that would fit my skills and would get me onto that next step. The first realistic position peeked my interest was one working for AppleCare as what could be considered a tier three position. The last tech support line before it went over to the engineers who actually made and designed the product. It was what I considered a perfect fit for my skills, and the work I had already done at the U of Arizona Bookstore and as a Mac Genius. My prayer was that I get that job. It looked like it would have solved so many problems. The girlfriend of the time had her parents in the area, the job was a good one, and compared to what I was making at the time the pay check looked amazing.
It fell through, and I missed the position by a millimeter, and I thought my prayer had been unanswered.
Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers.
Now in retrospect what I thought was an unanswered prayer was actually being answered in a much better way. The girlfriend was not the right one for so many reasons. The job would have been good, but it was a step further into the tech support role. I got to spend about 3 years living in NYC, a life changing event and one that I would never trade. I got a job working on one of the best and hottest products on the market a few years later.
There are still unanswered prayers that I am waiting for answers to come. For now I just look at the prayers that have been answered in ways I did not expect and pray that the unanswered ones become answered.
The issue for us is trusting God enough to trust also His timing. If we can truly believe He has our welfare at heart, may we not let His plans unfold as He thinks best? The same is true with the second coming and with all those matters wherein our faith needs to include faith in the Lord’s timing for us personally, not just in His overall plans and purposes.
Neal A. Maxwell
But as for me, my prayer is unto thee, O Lord, in an acceptable time: O God, in the multitude of thy mercy hear me, in the truth of thy salvation.
Psalms 69:13
Besides that I got to see a few of the new tech world things. I also think I managed to find a system for holding my tech gadgets in my new car. As it is I have to either stash them in the cup holders, or a bit of space below the stereo. Both places work, but it is not safe to try and change songs, or even worse to try and use Google maps. So I will pick up a few mounts from
